The Nursery Page (2)

The beginning stages  of Cat in the Hat.  About four coats of white paint were tediously applied by my wife Kym before I started outlining him with the black paint pens.  What a long boring job that was!  Good job Kym!!!
And BIG special THANKS to our friend Stacy who outlined and started painting the Cat.  This picture was rather ambitious and I most likely would not have done it at all.
Thank you Stacy.

I don't know what we would have done without some help from Zebby!!

Actually he kept saying, "PLEASE COME PLAY WITH ME!!!"

The Cat in the Hat was probably the most difficult of all because it required more freehand shadowing.  It was hard to picture the 'white splashes' with the 'clear aquarium' before painting but I think it turned out well.  While most of the pictures follow the lines in the book closely, some had to be made up.  A 5 foot cat is simply drawn differently than a 2 inch cat.

I couldn't imagine the room without  Sam I Am.

The Lorax 'speaks for the trees.'  We painted him at the entrance to the room looking out with a sort of worried look.  This picture doesn't catch his eyes well and he appears to be smirking.   In the book all we see of the Onceler is his hands sticking out the window, so, we put the Oncler's hands reaching into the room from 'outside.'

The ceiling fan and the dresser came from Lowes.  The fan is very cute, but at only 30" it doesn't move much air and is a bit buzzy.  Not really loud, but not silent either.

Three months of working off and on.  Love the results though I still hate painting.

You saw 'Some Fly High' on the last page.  This shows how it works with the crib.  Leaves a bit too much empty space that we thought of filling with a big white cloud.  Kinda like the empty space right now; helps keep the room from getting too small.  We have some stuffed fish we might hang from the ceiling.  Hmmmmm....

I'll bag a big bug
Who is very surpring,
A feller who has
A propeller for rising
And zooming around
Making cross-country hops,
From Texas to Boston
With only two stops.
Now that sort of thing
For a bug is just tops!
